One rose
Small, fluted, deep pink bud
Straining on its taut thorned stem
Into the vast empty air
One thrust
Of being, beauty, form
Challenging nothingness with life
Expiring into perfume
One life
A flash of energy
Tracing a single arc of truth
Against the bleak, dark void
One fierce bright yes
Indelible
Against the howling no
